Looking for an all new wardrobe? START WITH THE BASICS! All you need to start your brand new wardrobe is a couple fashion pieces, equipt to be the foundation of every outfit. Basics are timeless pieces that will never go out of style. They are also the building blocks of every well put together outfit and can be paired with almost everything else in your closet. These pieces are what you should spend the most money on. I justify the investment with the amount of variety and durability they each give me.
There are two key aspects to knowing what to start out with.
Neutrals. I’m talking blacks, whites, greys, khakis and all their variations.
Tailored or well fitted. Meaning... flattering, things that are made to hit you at the right places, are tailored to be fitted where your body naturally curves and lays to enhance your shape.
So where do you start? Use this checklist as a guide for a strong wardrobe foundation.
Jeans-
Every woman needs a good pair of well fitted jeans to make them feel like they can take on whatever their day throws at them: whether they're dark, light, white wash... or all three. GUILTY. I recommend investing in dark wash or black jeans. They go with literally EVERYTHING. Trust me you’ll get your money's worth with wear.
When shopping for jeans keep 2 things in mind: Body type and shoes. I truly think that in this day and age every woman should own a good pair of skinnies. They look good on ALL shapes and sizes (as long as they fit you correctly.)
Keep trying until you find the perfect pair. Other types of jeans include the bootcut, the flared, the straight leg and the boyfriend. All of which can be found in high waisted, regular or low rise style. It’s all about preference. Whatever works for you.
A helpful hint when buying a pair of jeans is thinking about what type of shoe you most regularly wear. Skinny jeans will (in almost every situation) look good with any shoe. That’s why I’m such a big advocate for the style. In the winter I’m wearing boots or booties everyday. If you’re like me I suggest you steer clear of boot cut or flared jeans. Trust me trying to fold and stuff the extra fabric into a riding boot isn’t pretty. However, if you’re a fan of the bootcut and flared jean style, I suggest you become friends with ballet flats and heels.
